Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game published on the Nintendo Switch that allows a player's creativity to flourish. You gradually transform a deserted island into a dream vacation getaway and build a community of wholesome, anthropomorphic villagers. No two players' islands are the same; with tens of thousands of items and the ability to landscape every square inch, each player makes their own version of paradise. My island, named "Kaladesh," is an ancient caldera containing the ruins of a lost civilization—converted into a modern treasure hunt theme park.

The semi-topographical map is designed to-scale. Note the ring of the caldera encircling the large body of water near the middle of the island.

Zooming In

This section, known as "the courtyard," acts as a crossroads of the different areas of the island. At the center is a "free" dig spot for players that visit the island and participate in the treasure hunt.

"TAKE THIS" is a reference to The Legend of Zelda, where a wise old man gives the hero his magical sword. The treasure buried here is a sword cosmetic item a player can wear.

Visualizing the details

Every item, every plant, and even every plot of dirt has been represented in a simplified manner that remains faithful to the game's aesthetic. Here are some glimpses around the gigantic image.
